After their 46-24 loss to North Queensland, St George Illawarra coach Shane Flanagan says he won’t rule out making changes to his team. At Kogarah Oval on Saturday, the Dragons led easily 18–4 halfway through the first half. However, they gave up three tries prior to halftime, giving the unbeaten Cowboys the advantage.
A week following a 38-0 loss against the Dolphins, the Dragons’ lack of discipline and control proved costly. Flanagan hinted that he could have to make changes after his team failed to build on their commanding round-one victory over the Gold Coast. Next week, they play Manly. Following the Cowboys defeat, Flanagan remarked, “That’s something I’ve got to look at.” “I provided the players with the opportunity to respond. Have we responded? I’d say we did for forty minutes. “We didn’t for the next forty minutes. As a club, we must consider it, but I also have to have faith in this group’s ability to get better. That’s where I have to carry out my duties. We’ll keep chipping away, working hard in the week because there’s a football side there.”
The Cowboys dominated the home team in the centre of the field, where Flanagan lamented his team’s lack of leg speed. The Cowboys are at the top of the ladder, and the Dragons are ranked 14th with a 1-2 win-loss record. On Good Friday, the Cowboys and Brisbane Broncos play a Queensland derby.
