Chris Millington thought that Town’s choice to postpone their home match against Ebbsfleet United was incorrect.
In what was the second pitch inspection at The Shay—the first one occurred at 11 a.m. today—match referee Elliot Bell called the game at about 2 p.m.
“I believe that was an error,” Millington informed the Courier. It’s challenging because, in my opinion, there may be some concern about the weather and the possibility that, should it rain during the match and the ground become unstable, the match may be called off after it has begun.
“However, I believe that with the current conditions, perhaps with a little more sand in some spots, it would have been playable to begin with, and then you’re just praying the weather doesn’t get worse.”
Town’s season will come to a conclusion full of events, as they have already moved their home match against Oldham to Wednesday, April 10.
“We’re eager to play; I detest cancelled games,” Millington remarked.
“I’m just built that way; there are never any situations in which I would prefer to have a game called off than played.
“However, we can manage it. If all goes according to plan, that will mean we have more bodies back by the time it rolls around again.
“The biggest loss is that we won’t have the chance to recreate the performance and mood from Wednesday night, but there will be benefits as well as drawbacks to the postponement.”
Millington went on, “The field is just one of many obstacles we must overcome at Halifax Town; there are many other factors that just aren’t taken into account at other teams. It’s another problem we confront.”
Although it’s an unnecessary step, it also makes it more difficult for the club secretary, the media team, and everyone else to manage the team.
