The Florida Gators are currently in the third season with Billy Napier as the head coach of the football team. Florida is 1-2 on the year and it is not going to get any better for the Gators. There have been fans who have been very critical of the head coach.
The Texas A&M Aggies loss this past weekend is not going to make Florida Gators fans rest any easier. Some want the head coach fired and it will be interesting to see when he is fired as the head coach.
Some Gators fans named former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban and former Gators head coach Urban Meyer as potential replacements for Napier after the 2024 season is over. However, there could be some other potential candidates who could emerge into this role. ESPN mentioned on ESPN’s college gameday podcast:
The one who makes the most sense for the Florida Gators is Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin. Kiffin currently has the Rebels as the fifth-ranked team in the country. Would he want to leave a non-pressure program with Ole Miss to go to a place where there are massive expectations with the Florida Gators?
Though it would be interesting to watch if he left, Penn State’s James Franklin is the most intriguing name on this list. Prior to joining the Nittany Lions, he was a coach in the SEC Conference with the Vanderbilt Commodores.
Since the 2014 campaign, James Franklin has served as head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions. After the 2024 season, Franklin might be ready for a change. With Penn State, he has coached in 129 games thus far, posting a 90-39 record and a.698 winning %.
For the Florida Gators, Franklin would be a far better choice than Billy Napier is right now. For the Nittany Lions, Franklin has done a fantastic job of recruiting, which is exactly what the Gators in the SEC Conference need right now. In the event that Penn State misses the postseason this year, Happy Valley supporters might also want a new head coach.
