REPORT: The Dallas Cowboys Head Coach has been Issued A…

As he approaches the last year of his Dallas contract, Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy makes some noteworthy hiring decisions.

Mike McCarthy is one NFL coach that is definitely on the firing line going into the 2024 campaign. The head coach of the Dallas Cowboys has no safety net as he approaches the last year of his deal with the franchise.

McCarthy’s future remains uncertain, but he demonstrated this week how much he’s training for potential developments that may arise in the upcoming offseason. ESPN.com reports that McCarthy has appointed Don Yee as his agent. Yee’s name may be familiar to you because he represents a number of famous people, including as Sean Payton, Jim Harbaugh, and Tom Brady.

This is an intriguing addition, as it indicates that McCarthy is aware that he may look for work after the 2024 season. McCarthy was first hired by the Cowboys in 2020, and despite his great success there—three consecutive seasons with 12 wins—he hasn’t been able to lift the team to the next level.

The Cowboys haven’t made to the NFC title game since 1995 and that drought has continued under McCarthy. The 60-year-old coach has led the Cowboys to the postseason in three of his four years with the team, but he’s gone 1-3 in those three appearances and Dallas hasn’t been able to advance out of the divisional round.

If McCarthy does end up becoming a coaching free agent next offseason, there’s a good chance he’ll have a long list of suitors. Although he hasn’t gotten Dallas to a Super Bowl, he has managed to go 42-25 in four seasons while also dealing with Jerry Jones.

Having Yee in place lets the Cowboys know that McCarthy is prepared to consider his other alternatives should he feel that the team is prepared to let him go. On the other hand, McCarthy now has Yee representing him, so if he has a good year in 2024 and the Cowboys want to keep him, he may play hardball with the Jones family in any potential negotiations.
