Luke O’Nien’s elegant gesture for Sunderland, another injury worry, and Pierre Ekwah’s cordial conversation at Cardiff

Pierre Ekwah had to come on for O’Nien late in the game, but Mowbray is hoping the defender was only recovering from a hard challenge rather than suffering a serious injury that would have kept him out of the game for a while.

O’Nien will be closely observed by Sunderland physicians over the next twenty-four hours.

Mowbray responded, “I don’t know, it’s a bit early,” to a question about O’Nien following the game.

“I think it was just a kick and a clash, and yet it is a bit concerning because Luke O’Nien isn’t somebody who would be hobbling about or staying down from an injury, so we’ll see over the next day or two.”
