It may be the end of Brady Oliveira’s season. Might he be done with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers too?

Brady Oliveira, a star running back, is out for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ game against the Ottawa Redblacks.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be without star running back Brady Oliveira when they face the Ottawa Redblacks on Thursday. The league’s reigning Most Outstanding Canadian was listed as questionable on the team’s injury report after missing practice this week due to a knee issue. He ran the ball 11 times for 38 yards and caught three catches for 17 yards in the team’s season-opening loss to the Montreal Alouettes.

Johnny Augustine will start in Oliveira’s place. The Guelph product scored Winnipeg’s sole touchdown last week, racking up 27 yards from scrimmage late in the fourth quarter. Over his six-year CFL career, the 30-year-old native of Welland, Ontario, has ran for 1,150 yards and two touchdowns while also making 15 receptions for 142 yards and one score.

Adam Bighill will make his season debut after missing the previous week’s game due to an unexplained injury. The three-time CFL Most Outstanding Defensive Player will start at middle linebacker, moving Kyrie Wilson to his customary position at weak-side linebacker. Keric Wheatfall will replace Kenny Lawler, who was placed on the six-game injured list earlier this week, as the boundary wide receiver. During his three undergraduate seasons at Fresno State, the six-foot-two, 194-pound native of Brenham, Texas, caught 78 passes for 1,286 yards and six touchdowns. He has since made brief appearances in the NFL and the USFL. The rest of Winnipeg’s starting lineup remains intact as last week.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (0-1) will face the Ottawa Redblacks (0-0) at TD Place Stadium on Thursday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
