ESPN REPORT: So Sad, The Sheffield Wednesday Football Club Head Coach has been Issued A…

Sheff Wed sacks manager Munoz following dismal start.

Sheffield Wednesday have terminated manager Xisco Munoz after failing to win any of his ten league games in charge. The Spaniard came to Hillsborough to replace Darren Moore, who resigned in June after leading the team to promotion from League One. Munoz, on the other hand, earned only two points as Owls manager, as the team began the season with its poorest start ever. The 43-year-old’s final game in command was a 1-0 Championship defeat to West Brom on Wednesday. Neil Thompson, the Under-21s manager, will take command of Saturday’s home game against Huddersfield Town. Munoz’s only previous managerial experience in England was at Watford, where he led the club to Premier League promotion in 2020-21.

Wednesday suffered a tight defeat to Southampton in the Championship season’s first game, followed by losses to Hull, Preston, and Cardiff. They started with a 0-0 tie against Yorkshire rivals Leeds, but their only other point came from a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough on September 19. The Boro match was temporarily halted when fans threw tennis balls on the pitch in protest of Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership of the club, while the club suffered defeats against Swansea, Sunderland, and the Baggies. Last week, Chansiri stated that he would not put any more money into the club because he was dissatisfied with the way some fans treated him and his family.

Munoz’s only achievement during his turbulent tenure was a penalty shootout victory over League Two Stockport in the first round of the EFL Cup, but they were subsequently eliminated on penalties by fourth-tier Mansfield in the second round. Xisco’s backroom team – Miguel Munoz, Miguel Gomila, Roberto Cuesta Roman, and Antonello Brambilla – have also left.
