Jim Schlossnagle, the baseball coach at Texas A&M, has pushed back against speculation about the Texas position.
Jim Schlossnagle was uninterested in discussing the Texas Longhorns shortly after Texas A&M’s baseball season concluded on Monday night. Earlier on Monday, Texas fired coach David Pierce after eight seasons. Schlossnagle, who previously worked with Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte at TCU, was quickly identified by both media and fans as a potential replacement for Pierce.
But when the Aggies were defeated by Tennessee in the College World Series final, Texas A&M’s coach didn’t want to add to the rumors. In the postgame press conference, Schlossnagle was not directly asked about the opportunity at Texas, but TexAgs reporter Richard Zane mentioned the “rumor circulating today about a specific job opening” before questioning Schlossnagle about his future in College Station. “I think it’s pretty selfish of you to ask me that question, to be honest with you,” replied Schlossnagle. “I left my family to become the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M with the intention of never taking another job again, and that has not changed.”
Before walking off the podium, Schlossnagle said, “I gave up a major portion of my life to come take this job, and I’ve poured every ounce of my soul into this job, and I’ve given this job every single ounce I can possibly give it. So, write that.
Schlossnagle, 53, has a 946-455 record in 23 seasons as the head coach at UNLV, TCU, and Texas A&M. Schlossnagle has been to Omaha seven times and is one of only four coaches to win multiple College World Series games at two different institutions.
